Prepless veneers are a great way to improve your smile with less fuss. While removing a part of your natural tooth is needed for traditional veneers, prepless veneers can be set on top of your natural tooth. The big benefit to this is after the lifespan of the veneer, you can remove the veneer and not have to replace it. You can simply retain your natural tooth, but with traditional veneers a replacement is necessary. There are factors that limit the type of patient that can have prepless veneers, so those with a hard bite or end to end occlusion may have to go the traditional route.
For prepless veneers, the doctor will be taking a master impression and detailed records at the first appointment. Once all information is gathered it will be sent out to the lab for the veneers to be made.
Once the veneers are delivered, there is a second appointment. The doctor will place each veneer on the tooth, checking for shade, fit, and overall appearance. The patient will be asked to check the veneers to make sure they are pleased with the end result prior to cementing. When looking at your veneers, it is important the patient examines them in different lighting conditions: in the operatory, a second room, and outside. Different hues of light will make them look slightly different, and if there is any correction needed, they can still be sent back to the laboratory. Once the doctor and patient are happy with the result, it is time to cement. When the cement has cured the veneer is now bonded to the tooth, and it is time to start enjoying that beautiful new smile!
